Our hilltribe sponsorship program started April 2010 from an idea that we wanted to improve the lives of as many young Hilltribe cricket boys who played in our cricket program in Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand. We were tired of seeing scabs and sores that these boys appeared to have all the time, Watdonchan's living conditions had been a big issue for us, the kids were living in appalling conditions in their dormitories, skin problems due to lack of washing facilities and hygiene controls. Monks supervise the children's well being, but even with the best intentions they are unable to provide the comprehensive support and awareness it takes to raise teenage boys and girls, poor standards in the dormities were driving the kids away from the school, although it never stopped their enthusiasm for playing cricket in the Chiang Mai junior cricket league. We initially moved them to a children's hilltribe hostel called Baan Pak Chow Kow, but several issues with the management there forced us to think of a new plan, and now we have it, our very own hostel for the kids. We have rented a very large pink house in the city, the boys have named it "Pinky House" we are now looking for house parents to take care of our hilltribe boys, some of the boys now have motor bikes to get to school and some of the other boys only have a short walk to their school apart from their general welfare and health, their education is the most important part of our sponsorship program.
All this for just...... 10,000 Baht ( approx £200)...per year... per child!

It's a real bargain when you consider the situation they found themselves in at Watdonchan. Many of the children opt out choosing to leave earlier than they really want to, so only fulfilling a basic completion of grade 6 education ( only 12 years of age) required by the government. After all 650 children live in at Watdonchan, so many cannot see any future, just returning back to Hill tribe villages high in the mountains where drug use is a major problem, or taking up very low paid work in cities when they should be in education. With your help, our aim is to give them a future, making sure they are in education and have regular cricket training nights to keep them fit and healthy. We aim to avoid the tragic situation where kids lives seemingly have no future by putting them on the right path where they can complete their education and may also become the next Thailand cricket stars.
