CPP U-19 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS WITH GAMES TO SPARE
Despite Chow Kow’s top order batsmen showing so much promise in recent friendlies, they failed to produce the goods in a disappointing match for them at Gymkhana Club. Once again CPP’s strike bowlers were too good for the opposition, bowling a good line with a tight field. Chow Kow lost the toss and were put into bat, they were determined not to lose early wickets, but that resulted in a slow run rate which never really improved. The captain Bonchooai (Bayshaygoo) was given the task of holding the innings together but the batsmen around him fell just as they were getting in. CPP’s bowling was exceptional in that only one boundary was scored in the entire 20 overs and Chow Kow could only scrape together 75 runs for 6 wickets, with Bonchooai finally succumbing in the 19th over from a run out. He top scored with a frustrating 18 from 59 balls illustrating the quality of CPP’s bowling attack. The best of the bowlers was Ga (Kitanoo Serger) finishing with 2 for 10 from 4 overs.
CPP knew the championship was there for the taking, and knowing the key was to keep wickets intact, they were unworried and batted patiently. Chow Kow’s opening bowlers failed to make the breakthrough knowing they had to bowl out the opposition, their belief began to fade as CPP’s confidence grew. Seegame (Surasak Wanarit) hit another fine score of 31 runs from 40 balls, and Yon (Kitikun Tacheenam) batting at three scored a stylish 20 from 23 balls. Jun (Jun Aryi) was the only effective bowler with figures of 1 for 7 off 4 overs with no wides. The result was never in doubt though, and CPP cruised to the CMSCA U-19 League Championship with 9 wickets remaining and two games to spare. Seegame picked up yet another player of the match award with his batting display, but also with good bowling figures of 0 for 10 off 4 overs. There are still 3 matches remaining in the U-19 league and CPP will be seeking to remain unbeaten, while the others play for pride.
