CPP V CHOW KOW @ 3G OVAL 21/11/2010

CPP’S QUALITY OVERWHELMS THEIR RIVALS
The much anticipated clash between rivals CPP and Chow Kow was a game of good quality, but inexperience led to missed opportunities for both sides. The sides have met on 3 previous occaisions with Chow Kow having the edge 2-1. Chow Kow won the toss and elected to field, backing their powerful and penetrative bowling attack to give their batsman a reasonable total to face. CPP however had other ideas despite losing an early wicket, they built their innings around Thai international Date (Parnudate Charongpaiwan), who top scored with 28 runs. Chow Kow’s bowling made inroads and took six wickets, with Choo (Cherchoo Bengkamta) returning with 2 wickets for 15 runs from 3 overs. CPP reached 94 from 20 overs, a modest total on a good batting wicket with a fast outfield, restricted by a some good straight bowling.

With a run rate of less than five an over, Chow Kow’s lack of batting depth meant they were dependant on their top order to get the runs. Opener Jun (Jun Aryi) rode his luck with two catches going down early in his innings, but he pulled the ball well , hitting five boundaries in the day’s top score of 30. Batsmen at numbers 2,3 and 4 could only amass 6 runs between them, falling to the fine bowling of Date and Ga ( Kitanoo Serger). Although Chow Kow were level with the run rate at the drinks interval on 47 for 4, their weaker batting line-up meant the odds were against them. Player of the match Date soon brought the game to a swift conclusion with Chow Kow all out in the 18th over for 71 runs. This victory by 23 runs sends CPP to the top of the league.

Left to right, Chow Kow and Chol Phratan Phataek cricket teams before the start of their U-19 CMSCA league game.
