U-16 Chaing Mai junior cricket league

GYMKHANA JUNIORS V MAE-ON

Sunday 4th December 2011 at Gymkhana Club

Last season Sahakorn2 played in the U-16 league, but this year the team has been renamed Mae On with 2 other schools as well as Sahakorn2 supplying players for the squad. However the Mae On side fielded at Gymkhana was missing it’s entire batting top order, and matched against last season’s champions it seemed that they would be overwhelmed. Mae On won the toss and elected to field, and with some quick straight bowling from Champ, Ni and Geng they were able to capitalise on their strengths. The accurate bowling kept the run rate down, but Chanchai and Jigme made an impressive partnership, then Anim pushed the score on to 81-3 from the allotted 15 over’s. Although the bowlers excelled, the fielding was below standard and a number of catches were dropped easing the pressure on the Gymkhana side.
Mae On’s inexperienced batsmen got off to a disastrous start when Geng was caught behind on the very first ball. Against the odds Champ scored a brilliant 24 from 19 balls, smashing 4 boundaries, and the total was all of a sudden a realistic one. Captain Chanchai and Gymkhana’s spinner Anim changed the course of the match though, mopping up the middle and lower orders, returning with amazing figures. (Anim 2.1 over’s, 3 runs for 4 wickets, Chanchai 2 over’s, 4 runs for 3 wickets) From 52 for 2 Mae On collapsed to 76 runs all out, only 5 run’s short of the total. Both teams will look to improve with some players returning to the squads, before coming up against CPP teams in the league late December.
