Cricket activities.

Many of the boys are being encouraged to become coaches, and a number are showing the potential that could see them develop further. Every Tuesday and Saturdays  1 or 2 boys are taken out to Lamphun and Mae On schools were they are slowly learning the basic coaching techniques, teaching  10 and 11 year olds, who are being introduced to ‘Sawasdee’ cricket. The program not only improves their confidence and communication skills, but the boys’ cricket is developing as a result. An ACC level 1 coaching course will be held in 2011 and some of the boys who are over sixteen will be entered. Who knows, with cricket exploding over SE Asia so quickly, there could well be a career for up and coming Thai junior coaches. There is currently a great shortage of coaches in the Kingdom. The hilltribe program volunteers have run coaching seminars (practical and theory) for 6 boys who have shown a natural aptitude for coaching. They are Mike, Choo, Bonchooai, Jun, Bogachai and Aalong.

During July all the boys donned their whites and went out to a Mae On school where a Saturday morning  hardball net is held. The boys were split up and were give a group of children to coach, catchng and fielding drills were the order of the day and the boys passed on their skills very well.

In August the day was repeated in Lamphun at the Yueng Wang Tong school, where the boys had another chance to practice their coaching, teaching correct catching and ground fielding techniques once again the boys showed good skill putting it across to a mixed group of boys and girls.

The three boys who were selected the u-14 squad trials in Bangkok, Left to Right Mike, Piwan and Nikom.
