Cricket was in the decline in the schools in and around Chiang Mai, unfortunately junior cricket coaches Eric Little and David Walker were no longer able to commit themselves to the junior cricket as they had done for the previous 8 years, it was a fairly grim outlook for further cricket development and they really needed help, well, that came in the way of Englishman Martin Papworth and his wife Puy, a younger man and his Thai wife. Now 2 years on and with hard work and total commitment they have now tipped the balance once more in the favour of cricket in the schools in and around Chiang Mai, with 8 schools, well over 300 children involved in the Sawasdee cricket program, along with the 70 teenagers in the hardball program, the 6 team u-16 cricket league, add the Thailand Boys under 19 youth Championship trophy to the season and I think you can say its been quite successful. Assisted by English Hardball coach Chris Dodd, they have now a solid base to progress from.
